NDA President's Vlog for April 9, 2020

April 9, 2020 | by Nick Pinizzotto

In this edition of the NDA President's Vlog, Nick Pinizzotto talks about how the best hunting stories tend to be the ones where something didn't go according to plan. He shares a fun story about a hunt with his dad that meets that criteria, and talks about how now is a great time to call upon our memories for some of our favorite hunting stories.

Pinizzotto explains how conservation organizations are finding it difficult to fundraise during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially those that rely upon spring banquets to generate revenue. He offers a number of ways you can help these groups get through this difficult time.

Also discussed is an opportunity to support an initiative to delay payment of federal excise tax payments by the archery industry. Unlike most other industries, the archery, firearms and sportfishing industries are subject to a 10-11% federal excise tax on related equipment. The firearms industry has been granted a 90-day deferral of this FET by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the American Sportfishing Association and Archery Trade Association and its respective members are requesting similar treatment.  A delay in the FET payment is needed to support struggling businesses whose revenues have taken a significant hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
