NDA Submits Letters of Support for Pennsylvania and Montana CWD Plans
The National Deer Alliance (NDA) has submitted letters of support for both the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s (PGC) Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Response Plan and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks’ (FWP) CWD Management Plan. NDA’s mission is to serve as the guardian of wild deer conservation and our hunting heritage. We focus entirely on policy that impacts deer and hunting, and one of our top priorities is deer diseases, and more specifically, CWD.
Through our extensive work on this issue across North America, we know that the management goals, practices and tools outlined in the two plans are based on the best available science. Both the PGC’s and FWP’s management goals are appropriately aimed at ensuring sustainable herds and hunting opportunities into the future, and the proposed tools to accomplish these goals have been shown to be appropriate and effective.
“We applaud the agencies’ leadership and willingness to attack this critical issue head-on as described in the respective plans,” said Torin Miller, NDA’s policy and outreach coordinator. “We also applaud the agencies’ willingness to include and listen to stakeholders within their borders and beyond.”
NDA urges the agencies to continue to increase stakeholder understanding of, support for, and participation in CWD management efforts. NDA stands ready to help the PGC, FWP, Pennsylvania and Montana hunters, and wild deer in this perilous fight against CWD, which is an unrelenting opponent.
